Can I do the Master Cleanse but cut out the syrup?

It's only there for flavor anyway, right? And it's extra calories I don't need. Can I do the Master Cleanse but cut out the syrup?
Yes you can, but...

You have to replace it with something. Otherwise you would be basically fasting.

No it is not just for flavor. You need the calories and nutrients it provides. The maple syrup provides over 1,000 calories per day in energy. Your body needs to operate and if it doesn't have any calories you will likely feel very bad.

There are fasts such as water fasts that don't call for any calories, but that is not the Master Cleanse or The Lemonade Diet.

The intention of The Master Cleanse is to provide essential nutrients, while reducing caloric intake to an amount enough to run your bodies vital systems. By taking the calories in the form of a liquid you are making it very easy on your digestive system. There is no need to break down large, bulky food. It is like an internal intravenous drip like you would get at the hospital.

The Lemonade Diet was developed to contain ingredients that combine to both provide the calories and nutrients you need, but to also encourage your body to eliminate toxins.

If you are going to replace the Maple Syrup, people sometimes use Agave Nectar, Cane Juice, or Molasses. There is some argument as to the amounts of similar nutrients in these replacements as compared to the Maple Syrup.

Also, the Maple Syrup needs to be a High Grade. It can not be refined Aunt Jemima - which is just flavor and useless sugar.
